Former Abeokuta Stormers FC captain, Adekunle Sam, has officially become a proud member of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club, Bayelsa United.
The announcement comes as a boost to Bayelsa United’s roster and ambitions ahead of their 2033/24 campaign.
Adekunle Sam, who has been featuring in the Nigeria National League, just transferred to Bayelsa United, after so much speculation and buzz around his move.
The charismatic center-back has signed a compelling two-year contract with the Yenagoa-based team, solidifying his commitment to the Restoration Boys.
Adekunle Sam’s career highlights include leading Stormers to the NNL Super Eight playoff in Asaba.
His strength on the field has already marked him as a player to watch, and his arrival at Bayelsa United could not have come at a more opportune time.
His transfer takes on added significance as he steps in as a direct replacement for Ebedibiri Endurance, who recently departed for Rivers United.
The excitement surrounding Adekunle’s new journey is palpable. He was an integral part of the warm-up friendlies against Akwa United and Enyimba.
When asked about his move, Adekunle Sam expressed his elation, claiming that he was thrilled about the new adventure.
He revealed that he has always wanted to play in the NPFL, and Bayelsa United is one of the clubs he’s been eager to join.
“I love the team with passion, but here am today it can only be God. I am here to give my best and to help the team win the league that is my alm now,” he said.
However, amidst the enthusiasm for his new chapter, Adekunle doesn’t forget his roots.
He fondly recalled his time with Abeokuta Stormers and acknowledged that he’s missing his former club, teammates, and the entire coaching crew.
Adekunle Sam, however admitted that Stormers FC will forever be in his heart and expressed gratitude.
