The 2025 CAF five-year ranking is out — and it’s a big win for Nigerian football’s pride. Rivers United have claimed the crown as Nigeria’s No. 1 club, sitting comfortably at 24th place in Africa.

Meanwhile, Enyimba hold the 35th spot, but the reigning NPFL champions, Remo Stars, are nowhere to be found on the list, Footballrover reports.
Rivers United Rule CAF Rankings 2025
This shock twist is already setting the stage for an exciting CAF Champions League season.
The CAF Rankings show just how far the Pride of Rivers have come. Not only are they the top-ranked club in Nigeria, but they also stand tall as the second-best team in West Africa.
With 14 points over the last five seasons, their consistency in continental competitions has kept them ahead of their Nigerian rivals.
Enyimba, despite making the list with 7 points, won’t feature in any CAF competition this season after finishing sixth in the NPFL last term.

This means Rivers United will carry the country’s hopes when the CAF Champions League preliminary round kicks off.
Remo Stars Absent Despite NPFL Glory
Perhaps the biggest surprise in the CAF Rankings 2025 is the absence of the Ikenne Boys.

The Sky Blue Stars clinched the NPFL title last season and played on the continental stage, yet they couldn’t break into the top 70 clubs.
This goes to show how CAF’s five-year point system rewards long-term success rather than just one great season.
For Rivers United, this ranking offers more than bragging rights.

With the CAF Champions League preliminary draw set for tomorrow, Saturday, August 9, at 10 am GMT, their position could influence their opponents—and their chances of going deep in the competition.
