Anthony Nwakaeme played a key role as Trabzonspor secured a crucial 2-1 win over Galatasaray in a crucial Super Lig clash at Papara Park on Saturday.
The Super Eagles forward not only contributed an assist but also led the post-match reaction, praising his teammates for a determined performance that has reshaped the title race, Footballrover reports
Anthony Nwakaeme reacts after Galatasaray win
It was a fast start from the Black Sea Storm, with Paul Onuachu finding the net inside four minutes—the earliest goal conceded by Galatasaray this season. The early strike set the tone for a tense encounter between the two sides.
Despite Galatasaray’s efforts to respond, the home team held firm. The decisive moment came in the 62nd minute when Chibuike Nwaiwu rose highest to head home what proved to be the winning goal.
Nwakaeme, making only his fourth start of the campaign, showed his experience and influence throughout the match.
Speaking after the game, Nwakaeme, who was quoted by Fanatik noted:
“It was a very important match. We were aware of that. Galatasaray are a good team. We worked all week to win. We knew that if we won, we would get much closer to our opponent. We are very happy for our city and our team.”
Nwakaeme highlights team spirit and title focus
Beyond the result, Nwakaeme pointed to the unity within the Trabzonspor squad as a major factor behind the victory.
The Nigerian forward stressed that every player contributed to the collective effort, whether on the pitch or from the bench.
“It wasn’t a surprising setting at all. Everyone, whether they played or not, wanted to win. That’s the spirit of being a family. And that’s what happened today.”
With six games left in the season, the focus now shifts to consistency. Trabzonspor’s win moves them within one point of Galatasaray, although the Istanbul side still have a game in hand.
Nwakaeme made it clear that the team is not getting carried away, urging a steady approach as the title race intensifies.
“Every match is important. We’ve taken the first and important step. There are six weeks left. We’ll start with Alanyaspor. We’ll take it one match at a time and try to win every game.”
