Doma United are now heading back to the big leagues, but their celebration has been cut short by a dark cloud of violence.

The Savannah Tigers officially secured their promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Saturday after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against ABS FC, Footballrover reports.

Chaos in Ilorin: Goalkeeper Trainer Beaten to Coma

While the result on the pitch was exactly what the Gombe-based side needed, the scene at the Rashidi Yekini Stadium in Ilorin quickly turned into a nightmare following the final whistle.

What should have been a night of pure jubilation for the travelling team transformed into a medical emergency.

As the centre referee ended the match, the atmosphere turned hostile, resulting in a physical assault on the Doma United technical staff.

Reports from their Facebook page confirmed that the team’s goalkeeper trainer, identified simply as Lemmy, was brutally attacked.

The assault was so severe that Lemmy was beaten into a coma, suffering a broken head that required immediate intervention.

The club’s medical team had to administer six stitches right on the field to stabilise his condition.

The Savannah Tigers also reported via their official Facebook page that several other players sustained various minor injuries during the post-match scuffle.

Doma United Seal NPFL Return Despite Late Drama

On the pitch, the Gombe Tigers showed the resilience of champions. Needing only a point to confirm their spot, they found their hero in Bitrus Philimon.

Philimon unleashed a thunderous long-range strike from outside the 18-yard box that left the ABS FC goalkeeper with no chance.

This crucial goal ensured the match ended in a stalemate, providing the point necessary to clinch the promotion ticket.

The Gombe State side has been dominant throughout the Northern Conference campaign, sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 23 points from 12 matches.

Their record of seven wins and two draws across the season highlights a team that is more than ready for top-flight football.

Having suffered recent setbacks against Sokoto United and Lobi Stars, this result marks a triumphant return to the NPFL just two seasons after their relegation.
