Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has admitted disappointment following Coventry City’s 2–1 defeat to Southampton at the CBS Arena on Saturday.
Despite a strong performance, the Sky Blues could not convert several scoring chances, leaving Onyeka frustrated but determined to move forward, Footballrover reports.
Frank Onyeka Highlights Coventry City’s Missed Opportunities
Speaking to the BBC after the match, Onyeka reflected on the contest, saying,
“It was a good game on both sides, but unfortunately we could not get the win. We had lots of chances, which obviously did not go in. It is one of those days where things might not go well for us.”
Onyeka played 77 minutes before being replaced by Victor Torp, who later scored Coventry’s only goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
Despite the late effort, Onyeka noted that the team had additional opportunities to equalise before the final whistle.
“When we scored the penalty, we were like, ‘This is the time.’ At the same time, after the penalty, we still had chances to equalise. It is just disappointing. We don’t need to dwell on this for so long”, Onyeka added.
Despite the setback, Onyeka stressed the importance of staying focused on future fixtures.
“But we need to pick ourselves up and move to the next game. Every player does not want a defeat, but today is one of those days we need to accept and pick ourselves up and move forward to the next game,” he said.

Beyond the pitch, Onyeka shared his delight at joining Coventry City, praising the club’s warm reception from both teammates and fans.
“My first day at the club, I knew it was right. The feelings around, not just the fans and the players, the way they welcomed me. I am really pleased to be here,” he said.
The Nigeria international has quickly become a key figure for Coventry City, impressing with his tireless work rate and ability to regain possession, proving he is a valuable addition to the Sky Blues squad.
