The Super Eagles of Nigeria closed their AFCON 2025 group stage campaign with an impressive 3-1 victory over Uganda on Tuesday evening, ending the phase on a confident note and securing all three points in style.
Nigeria started with control and patience, moving the ball well and testing Uganda’s back line early before finding the breakthrough midway through the first half, Footballrover reports.
Super Eagles Strike First Through Onuachu
The opener arrived in the 28th minute when Fisayo Dele-Bashiru surged down the left flank and delivered a low pass into the box.
Paul Onuachu timed his run perfectly and finished calmly past goalkeeper Oya to score his first goal of the tournament.
That strike gave the Super Eagles a deserved 1-0 lead going into halftime after a composed first-half display.
Onyedika Double Seals Super Eagles Win
The game tilted further in Nigeria’s favour after Uganda were reduced to ten men, with goalkeeper Magoola sent off early in the second half.
Raphael Onyedika then took centre stage. In the 62nd minute, Samuel Chukwueze split the Ugandan defence with a clever pass, allowing Onyedika to slot the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs to double Nigeria’s lead.
Just five minutes later, the midfielder struck again. Another move involving Chukwueze ended with Onyedika finishing confidently to make it 3-0, completing a quick-fire brace in his first start under head coach Eric Chelle.
Uganda managed a consolation goal in the 75th minute through Roger Mato, but it did little to change the outcome as the Super Eagles saw out the match comfortably.
