Super Eagles forward – Samuel Chukwueze, who has been in excellent form all season, scored on Thursday night as Villarreal let a two-goal lead against Real Madrid slip away.

Although the Nigerian international scored his team’s third Copa del Rey goal of the season, they still fell to the La Liga Champions 3-2.

The first 45 minutes of the game was completely controlled by Villarreal, and Etienne Capoue ended up giving them a solid start by beating Thibaut Courtois with a shot in the fourth minute to give the hosts the lead. Gerard Moreno provided a solid assist.

Despite Villareal’s dominating the first half, Real Madrid did had a few scoring opportunities, however Mendy, Valverde, and Rodgryo all missed the goal.

Right before halftime, Chukwueze extended their lead as Setien’s team persisted in their efforts.

The 23-year-old kept up his impressive play by scoring in the Copa del Rey round of 16 match, with Gerard Moreno once again providing the assist as his composure and movement led to the goal.

Real Madrid had a good start to the second half, but the game was altered by couple of substitutions. Los Blancos began their comeback as Villarreal lost their edge.

Militao equalized in the 69th minute after Vinicius Junior had scored in the 57th. The visitors persisted, and Ceballos gave Real Madrid a 3-2 victory with a beautiful strike into the bottom left corner in the 86th minute.

Although they had to work hard for it, Real Madrid will surely be glad to have grabbed the victory after the final whistle.

While Villarreal may be proud of their performance in the first half, they will want to forget that second half and aim to carry this energy into the league.

The next game for Ancelotti’s men is against Athletic Bilbao, while Samuel Chukwueze and his Villarreal teammates will host Girona.
