Nigerian stars Emmanuel Fernandez and Saviour Godwin lit up their respective leagues on Saturday, delivering crucial performances that secured victories for Rangers and FC Baniyas.

Fernandez’s decisive header guided Rangers to a hard-fought 2-1 Scottish Premiership win over Livingston, while Godwin’s clinical penalty helped Baniyas stun Al Sharjah 4-1 in the UAE Pro League, Footballrover reports.

Emmanuel Fernandez Steers Rangers to Victory with Early Strike

Fernandez, handed only his second start of the season, made the most of the opportunity.

The 24-year-old Nigerian defender rose above the Livingston defense to head Rangers into the lead in the ninth minute, giving his team an early boost.

The goal showed Fernandez’s aerial prowess and composure in key moments, earning him an impressive 8.4 match rating.

Livingston responded quickly, with Tete Yengi leveling in the 18th minute. The contest remained tight, with both sides creating chances, but Fernandez’s early contribution proved vital as Rangers battled to regain control.

The decisive moment arrived in the 78th minute when Mohamed Diomande struck for Rangers.

Initially flagged for offside, the goal was confirmed after a VAR review, securing a 2-1 win.

Fernandez’s performance was a huge boost for the Danny Rohl’s team, contributing to Rangers’ fourth consecutive league win since Rohl replaced Russell Martin.

The victory sees Rangers climb to fourth place in the table, though they remain nine points behind leaders Hearts.

Saviour Godwin Drives Baniyas to UAE Pro League Upset

Meanwhile, in the UAE Pro League, Saviour Godwin played a starring role as Baniyas pulled off a shock 4-1 victory over Al Sharjah.

Despite Sharjah dominating possession (72%) and registering 27 shots, it was Godwin’s counter-attacking threat that defined the game.

After guiding the team through dangerous breakaways that allowed Leonel Wamba to score twice, Godwin took full control in the second half.

His blistering run into the box in the 60th minute earned a penalty, which he converted with calm precision, effectively sealing the game.

Baniyas continued to press, and Youssouf Niakate added a fourth, leaving Sharjah’s late penalty from Igor Coronado as mere consolation.
