Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini delivered decisive contributions for their clubs on Sunday evening as the two Super Falcons stars stepped up with goals that sealed important wins for Everton Women in England and Paris Saint-Germain Féminine in France.
A tight, physical contest at Gateshead International Stadium produced a standout performance driven by key moments of quality, Footballrover reports.
Toni Payne lifts Everton with ruthless second-half finish
Everton Women needed a spark to break a scrappy first half, and they found it late in the game through decisive attacking play highlighted by Payne.
Everton took a slim lead into the break after Yuka Momiki curled a stunning free kick over the wall, leaving Newcastle goalkeeper Claudia Moan helpless.
The second half, however, brought a different tone. Newcastle tried to claw their way back, but Everton’s pressure grew stronger, and Moan was forced into action again, denying a close-range header from Payne.
The resistance collapsed in a frantic minute. Katja Snoeijs tapped home from a low cross to extend the lead, and before Newcastle could recover, Toni Payne punished Moan’s loose touch to roll the ball into an empty net.
That goal, her second of the season, takes the 30-year-old’s tally to three goal contributions across the Women’s Super League and League Cup.
Newcastle did snatch a late consolation through Beth Lumsden, but the day belonged to Everton’s sharper attacking edge.
Echegini seals PSG’s confidence rebound
Over in France, Jennifer Echegini stepped up at a critical moment for Paris Saint-Germain Féminines.
With the club coming off back-to-back Champions League defeats to Manchester United and Bayern München, a response was needed. PSG produced it through a commanding 4–1 league victory over Saint-Etienne.
Sakina Karchaoui opened the scoring early, while Romee Leuchter doubled the lead from the spot just before halftime.
Saint-Étienne threatened a comeback after Laura Munk Hermann made it 2–1, but Brazilian defender Isabela restored PSG’s two-goal cushion with a header inside the final ten minutes.
Echegini then finished the job in stoppage time with a composed strike, her first goal of the season, sealing PSG’s seventh league win and keeping them three points behind leaders Lyon.
The 24-year-old Nigerian midfielder now has three contributions in eight appearances, while teammate Rasheedat Ajibade remains sidelined with injury.
