It was another action-packed weekend for Super Eagles abroad as Maduka Okoye stood tall in Italy, Gift Orban impressed in Serie A, and Edna Imade stole the headlines in Spain.
Maduka Okoye and Ademola Lookman were in action as Udinese stunned Atalanta 1–0 in Saturday’s Serie A encounter.
Super Eagles Abroad: Boniface Impresses in Bundesliga Draw
The weekend started with Okoye pulling off a commanding performance in goal, producing several key saves to earn Udinese a crucial clean sheet, while Ademola Lookman — introduced in the 59th minute — found little space to influence the game as Atalanta’s winless streak stretched to six matches.
Victor Boniface continued his steady run for Werder Bremen in their 1–1 draw with Mainz.
The Super Eagles forward was active in attack and created several openings before being replaced in the 63rd minute after another promising display.
Mainz took the lead in the 38th minute through Widmer’s brilliant strike, but Bremen levelled late on via Stage’s composed finish in the 85th minute.
Boniface, who has one assist in the Bundesliga this season, remains a key figure among Nigerian players abroad, helping Bremen secure a vital away point.
Bassey, Iwobi, and Chukwueze Inspire Fulham Revival
It was a strong Premier League weekend for Super Eagles stars Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, and Samuel Chukwueze as Fulham bounced back with a convincing 3–0 win over struggling Wolves at Craven Cottage.
Ryan Sessegnon opened the scoring early before Wolves’ Emmanuel Agbadou was sent off in the 36th minute. Fulham capitalised, adding goals from Harry Wilson and an own goal by Yerson Mosquera.
Bassey was solid at the back throughout the 90 minutes, Iwobi impressed in midfield before going off late, and Chukwueze – introduced in the final stages – nearly added a fourth when his shot clipped the post.
The victory lifted Fulham to 11th in the table, ending their four-game losing streak.
At Selhurst Park, Super Eagles midfielders Chrisantus Uche and Frank Onyeka remained on the bench as Crystal Palace beat Brentford 2–0 to climb to seventh in the Premier League standings.
In French Ligue 1, Moses Simon ended a two-month goal drought with a decisive strike that secured Paris FC a 1–0 away win over AS Monaco in Ligue 1 Round 11.
The 30-year-old’s sharp finish eight minutes into the second half proved decisive, lifting the newly promoted side to 10th place with 14 points.
Simon’s goal marked his first since August, breaking a run of seven league and four international games without scoring.
Completing the full 90 minutes, he now has three goals and two assists in 11 league matches for Paris FC.
Osimhen and Onuachu Clash in Super Lig Stalemate
In Turkey, Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu went head-to-head as league leaders Galatasaray and second-placed Trabzonspor played out a tense goalless draw at Rams Park.
The Super Eagles duo embraced warmly after the match, a reminder of their camaraderie beyond club rivalry.
Osimhen was more involved, completing 82% of his passes and testing Andre Onana with two powerful efforts, while Onuachu — the current Super Lig top scorer with seven goals — endured a quiet evening, neutralised by Galatasaray’s disciplined defence.
The result kept both sides at the summit of the standings, with the Nigerian stars showing flashes of their trademark quality despite the deadlock.
Gift Orban Provides Spark Despite Verona’s Defeat
Gift Orban once again stood out for Hellas Verona in their narrow 2–1 loss to Inter Milan.
The dynamic forward registered an assist for Giovane’s equaliser and came close to scoring himself, rattling the post with a thunderous effort.
Orban, one of the most exciting Nigerian players abroad, now has two goals and one assist in nine Serie A appearances.
Despite Verona’s ongoing struggles, his creativity and work rate remain a bright spot in their fight to climb out of the relegation zone.
Super Falcons Abroad: Okoronkwo, Echegini, and Imade Star
Esther Okoronkwo continued her outstanding form, setting up a goal as AFC Toronto beat Montreal Roses 2–0 in the Northern Super League playoffs.
Fresh from helping the Super Falcons qualify for the 2026 WAFCON group stage, the 28-year-old registered her 15th assist of the season across club and country.
Her playmaking consistency — capped by her CAF Women’s Player of the Year nomination — underlines her evolution into one of the top-performing Super Falcons abroad.
In France, Jennifer Echegini made a strong return from injury for Paris Saint-Germain, providing an assist in their 2–0 win over Le Havre.
The midfield dynamo, who missed Nigeria’s WAFCON qualifiers with a hamstring issue, linked up with Romee Leuchter for the opener and created two more chances before being substituted in the 73rd minute.
Her influence from deeper positions shows PSG’s growing trust in her tactical maturity as they continue their perfect start to the season.
Over in Spain, Edna Imade delivered a statement performance in Liga F as Real Sociedad shocked unbeaten Barcelona 1–0.
Her calmly taken first-half penalty sealed the victory and extended her scoring streak to five straight games — seven goals in seven matches overall.
Imade’s hot streak has made her one of the standout Super Falcons forwards in Europe, with fans increasingly calling for her inclusion in the national team.
In Mexico, Vivian Ikechukwu continued her strong form for Club Santos Laguna Femenil, scoring in their 3–1 defeat to Atlético de San Luis in the final Liga MX Femenil Apertura match.
Ikechukwu opened the scoring in the 37th minute with a well-timed run, showcasing her sharp movement and finishing.
Despite her effort, red cards and quick goals from San Luis turned the game, leaving Santos Laguna with a disappointing season.
Ending the campaign with six goals in 14 appearances, Ikechukwu was the team’s top scorer. Her consistent performances mark a personal success in an otherwise challenging season.
Nigerian Stars Continue to Shine Across Europe
From Maduka Okoye’s clean-sheet heroics to Imade’s decisive finish, Nigerian players abroad—across both the Super Eagles and Super Falcons—continue to leave their mark in Europe’s top leagues.
Their performances this weekend reflect not only individual brilliance but also the depth of quality available to Nigeria’s national teams ahead of a busy 2026 season.
