Enyimba of Aba continued their 2025/26 NPFL season with a statement win, as Stanley Eguma’s side edged Niger Tornadoes 1–0 in a thrilling Matchday 3 clash at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
A 5th-minute header from new signing Joseph Abiodun proved decisive, sending the Aba faithful into celebrations and helping to shape the team for a promising campaign, Footballrover reports.
Stanley Eguma Praises Enyimba’s Grit and Resilience
After the match, the team’s head coach, Eguma, showered praise on his players, describing the victory as a major confidence-booster.
— “The boys showed character today, and I am proud of their bravery. Some of them, especially those making their first outing, were naturally a bit jittery, but they gave everything. With more games, they will certainly grow in confidence and deliver even better performances,” he said.
Despite the slim scoreline, Eguma acknowledged his side’s missed chances and promised improvements in finishing.
— “We created so many scoring opportunities but didn’t take them. That’s one area we must improve on. The important thing, however, is that we secured all three points. This win is for our fans who turned out massively. We promise them more exciting results as the season unfolds,” he added.
Niger Tornadoes Pay Price for Missed Chances
The coach of the visiting side, Majin Mohammed, admitted that his side suffered from missed early opportunities and the fatigue of their long trip from Minna to Aba.
The visitors struggled to find their rhythm, allowing the Aba Boys to control the pace and secure the crucial win.
Enyimba Look Ahead with Confidence
Buoyed by the result, the People’s Elephant will next face Nasarawa United, the ‘Solid Miners’, in a Matchday 4 showdown in Aba.
Eguma believes this clash will further test his team’s resolve and hunger for glory.
With early signs of steel and promise, the People’s Elephant faithful can now dream of a season where their new-look squad not only regains dominance but also rewards loyalty with memorable performance.
