The 31-cap Nigerian international came off the bench and made an immediate impact, scoring Racing Louisville’s second goal of the game in the 88th minute.

This was her first goal of the season and a significant moment for the 27-year-old, who has had a challenging time finding consistency since joining the NWSL in 2023.

It’s her third season with the club, yet the Nigerian forward has struggled to score consistently, netting only seven goals in 37 games.

She’s seen limited playing time this season, often coming off the bench and rarely playing more than 30 minutes.

In her first year, she scored just once in 21 appearances, followed by five goals in 12 games in her second year, and she is still working to find her breakthrough form.

Kanu showed her scoring touch, despite being on the field for only three minutes this time around.

However, her brilliant individual effort couldn’t change the outcome, as Kansas City Current had already built a strong lead.

The match at CPKC Stadium was a goal-fest from the start, with Kansas City Current wasting no time asserting their dominance.

An early own goal from Lauren Milliet barely 2 minutes into the game put them ahead, followed by two more quick strikes from Michelle Cooper in the 15th minute and Beatriz four minutes later, giving the Current a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.

Racing Louisville showed signs of life in the second half, with Janine Sonis scoring to reduce the deficit.

The tension peaked when substitute Kanu, who came on in the 87th minute for Courtney Petersen, made an immediate impact, scoring her goal with a powerful header to bring Louisville within one.

But Kansas City sealed their win in stoppage time. Temwa Chawinga, with an assist from Haley Hopkins, scored in the 95th minute to make it 4-2, ensuring the Current took all three points in a truly entertaining encounter.
