So many records were shattered on Wednesday night as Premier League giants Chelsea delivered a commanding performance against Spanish La Liga’s Real Betis, securing the 2024/25 Europa Conference League trophy.
The Blues triumphed over their opponents with a decisive 4-1 victory at the Tarczyński Arena in Wrocław, Poland, claiming the championship title, Footballrover reports.
The West London team demonstrated resilience, overcoming an early setback to defeat Betis in a thrilling 5-goal Conference League final.
Blues overcome early setback in thrilling final
Ezzalzouli’s ninth-minute goal initially stunned the Premier League side, who struggled in the first half, registering only 0.10 expected goals from a single shot on target by Palmer.
However, Maresca’s tactical substitutions, introducing James, Colwill, and Sancho, turned the tide. Chelsea quickly equalised when Fernandez headed home Palmer’s precise cross in the 65th minute.
Their momentum continued as Palmer’s delivery found Jackson, who scored past Adrian five minutes later. Sancho and Caicedo then sealed the victory with two late goals.
Chelsea: The Europa Conference League Champions and history makers
This victory means that for the first time in Premier League history, FIVE different teams have won silverware this season!
Liverpool FC – Premier League
Newcastle United – EFL Cup
Crystal Palace Football Club – FA Cup
Tottenham Hotspur – Europa League
Chelsea Football Club – Conference League
Chelsea’s triumph marks them as only the fourth team to ever lift the UEFA Conference League trophy.
Moreover, the West London side have become the FIRST CLUB IN HISTORY to win all four major European trophies:
✅ Champions League
✅ Europa League
✅ Conference League
✅ UEFA Super Cup
Chelsea star Moises Caicedo also made history, becoming the first Ecuadorian player to score in a European final.
Chelsea’s victory over Real Betis marked the first time a Spanish club had lost a European final to a non-Spanish team since 2001.
Chelsea ultimately finished with 1.31 expected goals compared to Betis’s 0.75, highlighting their superior finishing ability.
Unfortunately, the Blues will not participate in the UEFA Super Cup, as Europa League winners Tottenham await the winner of the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter.
Maresca’s team will now have to prepare for the FIFA Club World Cup, where they will face Mexican side Leon in their opening match on June 16.
