Rwanda’s head coach, Adel Amrouche, could not hide his disappointment after watching his team fall 2-0 to the Super Eagles in front of a packed Amahoro Stadium—including the country’s president, Paul Kagame.
The defeat not only dented Rwanda’s FIFA World Cup qualification hopes but also left Amrouche deeply embarrassed by his team’s performance, Footballrover reports.
Rwanda coach left speechless after Super Eagles’ dominance
The highly anticipated AFCON qualifier saw the Super Eagles overpower Rwanda with a commanding display in Kigali.
Goals from Galatasaray attacking star Victor Osimhen sealed the victory, pushing them to fourth place in Group C with six points—just one behind Rwanda, who remain third.
South Africa leads the table with 10 points, while Benin follows closely with eight.
Amrouche, visibly frustrated after the final whistle, did not mince words about his team’s performance.
“I am very ashamed today,” the Rwanda coach admitted. “We can’t give such a performance like this in front of all these fans and the president, Paul Kagame.”
Super Eagles shake up Group C, Rwanda boss fears fallout
With President Kagame watching from the stands, the stakes were high for Rwanda.
However, they struggled to cope with the Super Eagles’ pace and attacking precision, failing to create any real threats.
The loss not only angered their coach but also raised concerns about their qualification chances.
For Nigeria, the win breathes new life into their World Cup campaign. With a game against Zimbabwe left, the Eagles now have a real shot at overtaking Benin and securing a top-two finish.
Meanwhile, Amrouche and his team must regroup quickly before their next crucial fixture.
