Chelsea needed a last-gasp stunner to secure a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Everton in the Women’s Super League on Sunday, despite a standout performance from Toni Payne.
The Super Falcons star provided a crucial assist, but it wasn’t enough to stop the league leaders from claiming all three points at Kingsmeadow, Footballrover reports.

Everton took a surprise lead for the second week in a row against the West London ladies, this time through Kelly Gago.
The forward capitalised on a brilliant setup from Payne, slotting a precise shot past Hannah Hampton to put the Toffees ahead in the first half.
Despite dominating possession, the Blues women struggled to break down a well-organized Everton defense.
Maelys Mpome came close to equalising, but her close-range header was kept out by Courtney Brosnan just before crossing the line.
Everton’s disciplined approach frustrated the WSL leaders, who found themselves needing a moment of brilliance to get back into the game.
That moment came just over ten minutes after Everton’s opener when Mayra Ramirez fired a shot on the turn from eight yards out, leveling the score and reigniting Chelsea’s hopes of maintaining their lead at the top of the table.

Chelsea piled on the pressure in the closing stages, with Aggie Beever-Jones hitting the crossbar and missing a golden opportunity at the far post.
Just when Everton seemed on course to secure a hard-earned point, Lauren James delivered a breathtaking 93rd-minute winner.
The Lionesses star picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and unleashed a stunning left-footed strike into the far bottom corner, sparking wild celebrations at Kingsmeadow.
The win keeps the Blues ladies seven points clear at the top, while Everton was left devastated by the late twist.
“A harsh ending sees Chelsea take the points,” Everton posted on X after the final whistle.
