Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais is looking set to impose disciplinary measures against Super Eagles star Gift Orban due to a provocative social media post.

Following a recent 2-2 draw with AJ Auxerre, Orban’s comments praising an opponent have ignited a wave of backlash from both fans and club management, raising questions about the forward’s future at the club, Footballrover reports.

The incident unfolded after a tense match where Ivorian striker Sinaly Diamonde shone, contributing significantly to Auxerre’s performance with a goal and an assist.

Orban, seemingly well-meaning, took to social media to express his admiration for Diamonde, labelling his display as “Top” alongside a couple of fire emojis.

Unfortunately, his message was poorly received, especially considering that Diamonde’s achievements came at the expense of Lyon.

The reaction from Lyon supporters was swift and fierce, leading Orban to clarify his intentions.

He insisted he had no knowledge that his friend’s success was against his own team, questioning who would deliberately wish for their side to falter.

In his apology, Orban reassured OL fans that his heart lies with the club, and he regrets any misunderstanding caused by his post.

Despite his explanations, reports indicate that Lyon’s management is not inclined to overlook the situation.

According to RMC Sports, the club has summoned Orban for an official meeting, where he could face repercussions, including the possible forfeiture of his ethics bonus.

This comes after the player was already sidelined from the first-team lineup due to earlier disciplinary issues, compounding his difficulties in securing consistent playing time this season.

The impending Lyon sanction comes at a time where Gift Orban is struggling at the club and has been highlighted by his limited goal tally, with just two goals in Ligue 1 this season and three in his previous campaign since joining during the winter transfer window.
