Aleksandar Mitrovic’s header gave the Cottagers the lead in the first half; however, it took Darwin Nunez’s entrance to Liverpool for them to get going as he equalized in the second.

After Virgil van Dijk fouled him, Mitrovic converted the penalty to give the home team the advantage once more.

On the first day of the season, Mohamed Salah maintained his remarkable streak by scoring for the sixth year in a row to give the Reds a share of the victory.

Meanwhile, here are eight things we learned from Liverpool 2-2 draw vs Fulham

  • For the first time in a Premier League game since February 1994 vs. Southampton, Liverpool started with six players aged 30 or older. These players included Firmino, Henderson, Matip, Salah, Thiago, and Van Dijk.
  • Since the beginning of the previous season, Aleksandar Mitrovic has scored 44 goals in 45 league games, 15 more than any other player in England’s top four divisions.

  • The Red have just ended a run of 51 Premier League matches without conceding a penalty, which was the longest ongoing run in the competition.
  • Virgil van Dijk has given up a penalty in the competition for the first time since October 2018 vs Manchester City.
  • After Sergio AgΓΌero (2011–12) and lvaro Morata, Darwin Nunez is the only other player to score and provide an assist in his Premier League debut (2017-18).

Already off the mark in the Premier League.
  • Since JΓΌrgen Klopp took over as manager in October 2015, Liverpool has amassed the most points in the Premier Leagueβ€”115β€”by coming back from deficits.
  • Since Watford in 2017, Fulham is the first team to avoid losing to Liverpool on the first day of the season. In that season, the Hornets placed 14th.
  • Since lkay GΓΌndoan in February 2021, Aleksandar Mitrovic is the first player to score two or more goals in a Premier League game against Liverpool.

In the end, Mo Salah was the star, grabbing an assist, scoring a goal late to split the points for both teams while Mitrovic was excellent. Fulham was quite impressive on their return and deserved the outcome.

Liverpool had a disappointing start, both in terms of performance and outcome. Once Nunez entered the game, there was a noticeable difference, but too many players on the pitch performed below par and injury concerns already exist.

A really bad game from my side, the attitude wasn’t right in the beginning.” Klopp said.

The next Saturday, Fulham will resume play away at Wolves, while Liverpool’s next game is on August 15 when they entertain Crystal Palace at Anfield.
