Women’s World Cup debutant and Africa’s fourth representative at the 2023 Senior Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the Copper Queens of Zambia, are bracing up for the big stage by intensifying their build to the global women’s football championship.
The Copper Queens of Zambia are in Group C of the 2023 Senior Women’s World Cup along with Costa Rica, Japan, and Spain.
Last Friday, July 2, 2023, the Bruce Mwape-coached Copper Queens of Zambia shocked two-time Women World Cup winners Germany 3-2 in their last International friendly match in readiness for the Women World Cup, which will expectly kick off in the next ten (10) days.
Copper Queens goals came from their inspirational Captain, Barbra Banda, who scored a brace in the match, and Spanish Liga F Star forward Rachel Kundananji.

Germany scored two consolatory goals from the boots of Alexandra Popp.
The Copper Queens had earlier beaten neighbours Tanzania 1-0 in a send-off match in Lusaka before losing 2-3 to Super Falcons Group B opponent Republic of Ireland.
The Queens also played a 3-3 draw with the 2023 Women’s World Cup Group A team, Switzerland.
Barely two weeks ago, the Copper Queens Coach, Bruce Mwape, released a strong 23-woman World Cup Squad that included Skipper Barbra Banda, Spanish Liga F Forward Rachel Kundananji, Evarine Susan Katango, Ireen Lungi, Ochumba Oseke Lubanji, Lushomo Mweemba, Margaret Belemu, Hazel Mali,Grace Chanda, and Susan Banda.
Conspicuously missing from the World Cup-bound team are former Copper Queens captain Misozi Zulu and Spain-based Rachael Nachuba, Mexico-based Prisca Chilufya, Leticia Lungi, Esther Chitete Munsaka, Jacklyn Nkole, Pauline Zulu, Regina Chanda, and Maylan Mulenga.
Three players, Esther Siamfuko, Rhoda Chileshe, and Comfort Selemani, were placed on standby by Coach Bruce Mwape.
