Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong delivered a standout performance on Wednesday evening, scoring a crucial goal to inspire Al Ahli Doha to a well-deserved away victory over Al-Gharafa in the Qatar Stars League.
The Nigerian defender netted his side’s second goal as they came from behind to secure an emphatic 4–1 win at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, Footballrover reports.
William Troost-Ekong’s Brilliance Turn the Tide for Al Ahli
It was a special moment for the 32-year-old, who finally opened his goal account for the club in his 14th appearance, achieving the feat in their Round 19 clash.
Al-Gharafa started brightly, but Al-Ahli Doha flipped the script in style to run out emphatic winners in the 5-goal thriller.
It looked routine early on when Yacine Brahimi coolly slotted home a 28th-minute penalty to put Al-Gharafa ahead. But whatever was said at halftime clearly worked wonders for Al-Ahli.
Just seconds into the second half, Younes Abdelrahman restored parity, setting the tone for the dominant turnaround.
Then came a big moment—William Troost-Ekong powered home in the 59th minute to complete the comeback and put his side in front.
Late drama followed as Michel Vlap converted from the spot on 87 minutes, before Abdelrahman grabbed his second deep into stoppage time to seal a commanding win.
Key Moments: Goals, Comeback, and Victory
Recall that Troost-Ekong joined Al Ahli Doha during the winter transfer window, bringing leadership and defensive experience as the club aim to stabilise its season.
He moved to the Qatari side from Al Kholood, where he captained the team, made 49 appearances, and scored twice.
Troost-Ekong signed a deal running until 2028 and wears the number five jersey.
With this emphatic victory, he and his teammates have returned to winning ways after two straight defeats and a draw. However, they remain 10th in the 12-team Qatar Stars League table.
