Former Turkish defender Erman Toroğlu has weighed in on the debate surrounding Victor Osimhen and Mauro Icardi, sparking fresh discussions over who is the superior striker.

While Osimhen has impressed with his goal-scoring ability since his move to the Turkish Super Lig, Toroğlu insists Icardi remains a class above, Footballrover reports.

Victor Osimhen’s impact vs. Mauro Icardi’s proven quality

Osimhen, on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, has been a constant performer at the club, netting 19 goals and registering five assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Surprisingly, despite his contributions, Toroğlu believes there’s still a gap between him and Icardi.

Osimhen and Galatasaray goalkeeper

The Argentine forward, who previously starred for Paris Saint-Germain, boasts a stellar record of 61 goals and 22 assists in 87 matches for the French giants.

His finishing ability and movement in the box have earned him a reputation as one of Europe’s most lethal strikers.

‘Icardi is a different fabric’ – Toroğlu

Speaking on the Vole YouTube channel as quoted by habersarikirmizi, Toroğlu acknowledged Osimhen’s impact, especially after his two-goal brilliance in Galatasaray’s win over Çaykur Rizespor.

However, he argued that while such goals might come easier in Turkey, replicating them in top European leagues would be a greater challenge.

Osimhen with teammates

While praising Osimhen’s speed and determination, Toroğlu emphasised that Icardi’s composure, clinical finishing, and ability to evade defenders are the qualities that set the Argentine apart.

Osimhen is a quick, fast man, but he is not as good as Mauro Icardi. Icardi is a different fabric. Icardi is comfortable, a finisher, and always gets himself lost,” he said.

With Icardi absent for long now, Galatasaray has obviously turned to Osimhen to lead their attack, and he has rewarded the team with goals.

But as it stands, the Super Lig side will now attempt to overturn a 4-1 first-leg deficit against AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night, hoping that Osimhen will produce some moments of magic.

The debate rages on—can Osimhen prove he belongs in the same league as Icardi?
