Super Eagles duo Terem Moffi and Zaidu Sanusi delivered solid performances to guide FC Porto to a hard-earned victory over VfB Stuttgart in their Europa League Round of 16 first leg clash on Thursday evening.

While Moffi scored the opening goal of the encounter, Sanusi played a key role in the second as Porto edged their hosts 2–1 at the MHPArena, Footballrover reports.

Terem Moffi strikes early to put FC Porto ahead

Moffi’s strike was his first goal of the competition and his second for Porto, following his maiden goal in the 3–1 win against FC Arouca on February 27.

For Sanusi, the contribution marked his first assist in the competition, taking his overall tally to three goal involvements — one goal and two assists.

The visitors started brightly and took the lead in the 21st minute. A fine piece of play from Silva saw him win possession in Stuttgart’s half before passing to Sainz on the edge of the 18-yard box.

Sainz flicked the ball on for Moffi, who buried a composed finish past the helpless Alexander Nübel at the near post to make it 1–0.

Zaidu Sanusi assist seals crucial FC Porto advantage

Six minutes later, Porto doubled their advantage to make it 2–0. The hosts lost possession in their own half, allowing Sanusi to burst down the left flank.

His cross into the centre of the penalty area was prodded into the bottom-left corner by Rodrigo Mora.

However, five minutes before the break, Deniz Undav pulled one back for Stuttgart.

Porto failed to clear the danger from the edge of the box, and Bilal El Khannouss struck an effort towards goal that ricocheted off a defender.

The ball fell kindly to Undav, who took a touch with his right foot before firing a stunning left-footed strike into the bottom-right corner to make it 2–1 and they held on to snatch the win.

After claiming this vital victory against Stuttgart, Porto have now won four consecutive European games played on German soil, and are now looking like favourites to progress, as they aim to clinch Europe’s secondary club title for a third time in their history.
