Sunshine Queens Football Club of Akure has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 President Federation Cup after defeating Honey Badgers 2-0 in the round of 16.
The match, played at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, saw Bolaji Olamide score the opening goal in the 17th minute, followed by Aluba Ogba’s long-range strike in the 62nd minute, sealing the victory for the 2015 Women Federation Cup winners, Footballrover reports.
The Akure Landladies dominated the game from start to finish, with Coach Rafiu Oseni praising his players for their impressive performances.
In his post-match interview, the coach claimed that his ladies were well-coordinated and disciplined throughout the game.
Oseni attributed the team’s success to hard work and dedication, adding that they took their time to work on the inadequacies they discovered in their first match, and thanked God that their efforts were not in vain.
Looking ahead to the quarterfinals, Coach Oseni emphasised the importance of self-assessment and improvement.
“For us to progress in the competition, we have to assess ourselves from every department and work on the areas where we are not doing well, so that we can be more stronger.”
Sunshine Queens will face Delta Queens in the next round of the competition, but the venue is yet to be announced.
This victory marks a huge step ahead for the NWFL side, and as they progress in the competition, it will be exciting to see how they continue to improve and evolve as a team.
