Stephen Eze sparks Jamshedpur’s semi-final push
It was a night to remember for Stephen Eze as he fired Jamshedpur into the semi-finals of the Indian Super League.
The Nigerian defender made his presence known early, scoring just 29 minutes into the match.
After pouncing on a loose ball, Eze made no mistake, sending it into the net to give his team a crucial lead.
Despite Jamshedpur being a man down after Mobashir Rahman’s red card in the 88th minute, they held strong to secure the 2-0 win over NorthEast United at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Eze’s early goal set the tone, and Javi Hernandez sealed the victory with a composed finish in the dying moments of the match.
With three goals this season, the 31-year-old Super Eagles defender has proved to be a key figure in Jamshedpur’s impressive campaign.
For being rock-solid at the back and decisive up front, Stephen Eze was named the Tata Intra Player of the Match for delivering for the club when it matters the most.
Uche Obiogumu strikes but can’t save Nürnberg II
On the other side of the world, Uche Obiogumu put in a standout performance for Nürnberg II in the German Regional Liga.
The 20-year-old forward scored his 10th goal of the season to pull his team level, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat at home to TSV Buchbach.
The match, held at the Max-Morlock-Platz, saw Nürnberg II start on the back foot as TSV Buchbach took the lead with a penalty from Albano Gashi in the 30th minute.
However, Uche Obiogumu wasn’t to be denied. Just 20 minutes into the second half, he found the back of the net to equalise for his team.
As the match neared its final whistle, the home fans hoped for a draw, but Tobias Heiland stunned them with a stoppage-time winner, leaving Obiogumu and his teammates empty-handed.
It was a weekend of mixed emotions for the Nigerian duo.
While Stephen Eze led his team to victory, securing Jamshedpur’s place in the semi-finals, Uche Obiogumu saw his team fall short despite his best efforts.
