Nigerian forward Uche Obiogumu dazzled with a sensational hat-trick, yet his brilliance was wasted as Nürnberg II fell to a gut-wrenching 5-4 defeat against Augsburg II in the Regionalliga Bayern.

The 20-year-old Nigerian striker put his side ahead twice, but defensive lapses cost them dearly in a night of high drama, Footballrover reports.

Nürnberg II, desperate for a win after a 1-1 draw with Vilzing, started strongly.

Uche Obiogumu struck twice in the 17th and 37th minutes, putting his team in control. However, Juan Cabrera’s goal just before halftime hinted at the chaos to come.

The second half was a whirlwind of emotions. Augsburg II came out firing, and within minutes, Aiman Dardari and Daniel Hausmann turned the game around, making it 3-2.

But Obiogumu wasn’t done yet—he completed his hat-trick in the 61st minute, leveling the score at 3-3 and taking his tally for the season to nine goals.

This marks his second hat-trick of the season, with the first coming in a 3-3 draw against Aschaffenburg back in November.

Simon Joachims restored Nürnberg II’s lead moments later, raising hopes of victory.

However, Augsburg II refused to surrender. Julian Bell equalised at 4-4 before Cabrera sealed Nürnberg II’s fate with an 88th-minute strike, completing a stunning comeback.

Despite Obiogumu’s individual brilliance, Nürnberg II walked away empty-handed, their defence undone in the dying moments.

This loss extends Nürnberg II’s poor run, with just one win in their last six games (three defeats, two draws).

They now sit in 13th place with 27 points, only three above the drop zone. With nine league matches remaining, their survival fight is far from over.
