The Nigerian Women’s U-20 Football Team, the Falconets, started the sub-regional U-20 Women’s Football Tournament with a 7-0 whitewash of the Niger Republic in the first match played today at Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, Ghana.
The Falconets led Niger Republic 3-0 in the first half of the match and scored four (4) additional goals in the second half.
Falconets U-20 World Cup star Esther Ajakaye scored a hat-trick in the 4th, 13th, and 54th minutes of the first and second halves of the match.

Chinyere Kalu scored the Falconets third goal in the 30th minute of the first half, while Adaobi Okah and Victoria Alani, respectively, scored the fifth and sixth goals in the 49th and 64th minutes of the second half.
Chioma Olise scored the seventh goal a minute into extra time in the second half.
Falconets second match is Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the same venue, at 6:00 p.m. Nigerian time.
