The Nigerian youngsters equalized in the 31st minute of the half through a corner kick that sailed into the net after bouncing off a Dominican Republic defender’s leg to end the first half with a 1-1 scoreline.
Samson Adeniran Lawal put the Flying Eagles 2-1 ahead in the 70th minute of the second half after profiting from a defensive error by the defense of the Dominican Republic.
The 2-1 victory against the Dominican Republic has guaranteed the Nigerian side their first three (3) points of the group and puts the team in good standing to face their second Group D opponent, Italy, on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the same venue, by 7:00 p.m. Nigerian time.
