Nigeria’s U-20 Women football team, the Falconets, on Wednesday evening zoomed into the final of the WAFU B U-20 Women Football Championship in Ghana.
The Falconets defeated Benin Republic 3-0 in one of the semi-final matches played at Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi.
Amina Bello opened the floodgates of goals for the Falconets in the 23rd minute of the first half of the match.
The goal was Amina’s third in the tournament. She scored a brace for the Falconets in the 6-0 victory against the Togolese in the second group match on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the same stadium.
Earlier, Esther Onyenezide had missed from a distance an attempt at the Beninois goal in the fifth minute of the first half of the match.
She then made it 2-0 for the Falconets before the end of the first half through the penalty spot after Flourish Sabastine was hacked down in the box by the Beninois defenders in the 32nd minute of the first half.
Esther Onyenezide also scored the Falconets third goal against Togo from the spot.
On the resumption of the second half, Chidinma Ogbuchi almost scored through a header in the 55th minute of the second half, but her effort was unsuccessful.
In the 62nd minute of the half, Esther Onyenezide scored her brace in the match after a brilliant assist from Taiwo Afolabi.
Amina Bello’s effort to score another brace in the 66th minute of the second half was frustrated by the Beninois goalkeeper.
The score stood at 3-0 at the end of 90 minutes in favor of the Falconets.
The Falconets will now face host Ghana in the finals of the maiden edition of the sub-regional Women’s U-20 Football Championship.
The Senegalese U-20 Women’s Football Team had earlier won the WAFU A Women’s U-20 Football Championship.
