FC Porto’s Samuel Aghehowa continued his impressive form in the UEFA Europa League, scoring in his 3rd straight game to help his side secure a crucial 2-0 victory over FC Midtjylland on Thursday.
The Europa League clash at the Estádio do Dragão saw Porto extend their dominance over Danish opposition, and Aghehowa’s goal made it three consecutive matches with a goal for the 20-year-old Nigerian forward, Footballrover reports.
He previously found the net in Porto’s 2-0 victory over Casa Pia AC and added another in their 1-1 draw against Famalicao in Liga Portugal.
A key contribution from Samuel Aghehowa
Porto led 1-0 at halftime, thanks to Danny Namaso’s header in the 29th minute, assisted by Stephen Eustaquio.
Aghehowa doubled their advantage in the second half, finishing off a perfectly delivered pass from Pepê in the 56th minute.
This goal marked his fifth in the Europa League this season, contributing to his 15th goal of the season in all competitions.
FC Midtjylland denied by VAR drama
Despite a late scare in additional time when Adam Buksa thought he had pulled one back for Midtjylland, the goal was ruled offside after a VAR review.
The disallowed goal ensured Porto held on for the win, maintaining their perfect record against Danish sides in recent meetings.
Porto’s progress in the Europa League
This victory moves FC Porto to 18th place in the group, with 8 points from four matches, keeping them firmly in contention for the next stage with two games remaining.
Samuel Aghehowa’s vital contribution is proving to be key for Porto as they aim to advance further in the competition.
