Both Kenneth Omeruo and Umar Sadiq scored as Leganes held Almeria to a 2-2 draw on Sunday evening in what was described as a clash of the Super Eagles stars.
After Borja Garces of Leganes and Rodrigo Ely of Almeria had scored goals in the first quarter of an hour, Omeruo sprang up to give Leganes the lead minutes before the interval.
It was the 28-year-old defender’s second goal of the season, and his first since Leganes crushed Malaga 2-0 in December.
With Real Valladolid winning at home to Huesca and Eibar averting defeat at bottom-placed Alcorcon, Omeruo’s goal knocked Almeria out of the top two automatic promotion slots.
With 17 goals and 12 assists, Sadiq had nearly single-handedly led La Union to the brink of promotion.

Before the former AS Roma sensation came back to save the day by netting his side’s equalizer just after the break.
The draw was insufficient, however, since all three teams at the top of the league standings had 81 points at the time, with Eibar’s superior head-to-head advantage keeping Almeria in third place.
However, after depriving Almeria a much-needed win last weekend, bottom-placed Alcorcon appeared to be the spoiler once more, scoring a late winner to inflict Eibar a surprise 1-0 defeat.

That was all Almeria required to catch up to their opponents and complete the season as table toppers and champions of the second division.
At the final whistle, Umar Sadiq and his teammates rejoiced, with the Super Eagles forward on his way to realizing his ambition of playing in La Liga.
