Rivers United forward – Malachi Ohawume, has clarified that ensuring the Pride of Rivers’ historic victory is more important than making sure he gets on the score sheet.
The forward emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on the team’s goals after he scored a brace in Rivers United’s 3-2 win over Dakkada FC on the road.
On Saturday, May 28, Dakkada FC played Rivers United in the Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 30 match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Stanley Eguma-coached side came out firing in the first half, capitalizing on their momentum with a goal from Chijioke Akuneto, who now has 12 goals for the club this season.
The hosts took the lead for the majority of the game thanks to Edidiong Ezekiel’s goals just before and after the break.
Malachi Ohawume, who came on as a late substitute and scored a brace, became the hero of the day in Uyo. First, he scored an outstanding overhead kick and a point-blank finish to secure victory for Rivers United.

Rivers United won 3-2 away, maintaining a 7-point lead atop the NPFL log with eight games remaining, and he acknowledged that his team’s victory is more crucial than his goal-scoring record.
βI am happy because getting a brace in the NPFL is not easy, I getting it was not even for me, i got it for the team. I am happy that at the end of the end, we got the result,” he said.
