Sevilla’s hopes took a sudden dive on Sunday evening when one of their standout players, Chidera Ejuke, faced an unfortunate injury blow during their La Liga clash with Barcelona.
It was a moment that could prove vital in the club’s campaign, leaving fans and teammates anxious about what lies ahead for the Nigerian winger, Footballrover reports.
Fresh off the international break, Ejuke returned to Spain after taking part in Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 qualifier against Libya.
Despite a hostage crisis disrupting the reverse fixture, he was immediately thrown into Sevilla’s starting XI against Barcelona.
But as the first half drew to a close at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, Ejuke’s evening took a disastrous turn.
Chidera Ejuke’s injury adds to Sevilla’s woes
In the dying minutes of the first half, Chidera Ejuke pulled up with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, forcing his manager to replace him with Albert Sambi Lokonga.
The 26-year-old had been delivering a solid performance with 20 touches, two ball recoveries, and two successful dribbles before the injury.

Sevilla, already struggling at 3-0 down after goals from Robert Lewandowski and Pedri, could not afford to lose their key winger.
Despite Ejuke’s best efforts, Sevilla found themselves outclassed by their hosts, with Lewandowski netting twice and Pedri adding another.
Pablo Torre then delivered two late goals to compound the misery for Sevilla as Barcelona snatched a 5-1 win in the end.
Stanis Idumbo Muzambo scored the consolation goal the visitors, at least something for fans to cheer about.
This injury marks a significant blow for both Sevilla and Ejuke.
The Nigerian star had only recently cemented his place in the starting lineup after a challenging period since joining the club during the summer.
In his post-match remarks, coach García Pimienta confirmed that Ejuke will be out of action for some time, though he didn’t specify how long the recovery would take.
According to Sevilla’s official website, he stated:
“Ejuke is injured, he has felt a pain in his hamstring and we will see how long it lasts”.
