Super Eagles hopeful Rafiu Durosinmi experienced mixed emotions on Saturday afternoon, as he registered an assist that proved insufficient to save his new side, Pisa, from yet another heavy defeat in the Italian Serie A.
Durosinmi came off the bench to set up the only goal for the hosts, but Pisa still fell to a disappointing 3–1 loss against Sassuolo at the Alberto Arena, Footballrover reports
Rafiu Durosinmi makes instant impact despite Pisa defeat
In the Serie A Round 23 encounter, the newly signed forward was introduced at the start of the second half, replacing Marius Marin. Just five minutes after coming on, he provided the assist for Pisa’s lone goal of the match.
It marked his first assist for the club and his second goal contribution overall, following his debut goal in the 1–1 draw against Atalanta.
While Durosinmi once again found himself in the spotlight despite not yet making a full debut, his compatriot Ebenezer Akinsanmiro was left unused on the bench.
However their early optimism faded when Rosen Bozhinov’s fifth-minute goal was ruled offside.
Sassuolo seized control through Domenico Berardi’s stunning solo strike on 25 minutes, before his cross forced an Antonio Caracciolo own goal in stoppage time.
Pisa briefly revived hopes after the break as Durosinmi set up Michel Aebischer, who volleyed home, but Ismaël Koné’s calm finish restored Sassuolo’s two-goal lead.
Sassuolo saw out a comfortable win, while relegation fears deepened for Pisa, and pressure mounts with relegation looming closer now.

With this result, Pisa have now suffered back-to-back defeats after losing 6–2 to Inter Milan in their previous outing.
The last time Pisa recorded a victory was on November 7, 2025, when they edged Cremonese 1–0.
Since then, the team has gone 12 games without a win, recording seven defeats and five draws.
Pisa slipped to the bottom of the Serie A table following the home loss, extending their poor run to just one win all season.
After the defeat to Sassuolo, Durosinmi and his teammates will now turn their attention to their next fixture—an away clash against Gift Orban and his Hellas Verona side.
