Ereme Jackson FC has secured a bronze medal in the prestigious OPM Scouting Tournament, held at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Rumuomasi/Elekahia, Port Harcourt.
The tournament, which saw 82 clubs participate, is considered the largest and most esteemed scouting program in Nigeria, Footballrover reports.
Ereme Jackson FC players displayed impressive skills and strength, scoring a total of 12 goals throughout the tournament.
Chibueze Chibundu emerged as the club’s top scorer, netting four goals.
Despite their commendable performance, the team’s players were visibly disappointed, having hoped to reach the finals and potentially secure the gold medal.
In a show of remorse for their semi-final loss to OPM International, the team won the third-place match.
The bronze medal left a bittersweet taste for Ereme FC club President, Mr. Jackson.
However, the businessman and philanthropist offered words of encouragement to his players, saying,
“Keep up the good work, boys. Today it’s bronze, but tomorrow it shall be gold if you work harder.”
Ereme Jackson FC received a cheque for N300,000 (three hundred thousand Naira) and the bronze medal, presented by HRH Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere.
The third-place trophy was handed to club captain Josiah Okanu.
Meanwhile, OPM Football FC continued their dominant run, emerging as champions after the narrow semi-final win against Ereme FC.
They edged out Echeleche FC 4-2 on penalties on Friday.
This latest victory adds to their impressive trophy cabinet, having already secured the Rivers State Super League title and emerging champions in the Cross River State playoffs.
OPM FC’s reign extends beyond state borders, securing back-to-back championships in Seasons 2 and 3 of the Zion City League.
Remarkably, they remain undefeated in all tournaments they’ve featured.
