The much-anticipated NLO promotion playoffs in Port Harcourt have hit an unexpected roadblock, with the Nationwide League One (NLO) announcing a sudden suspension of all matches.

This dramatic halt comes as a direct result of a pending appeal that could reshape the path to promotion, leaving clubs and supporters on tenterhooks, Footballrover reports.

Port Harcourt playoffs on hold: The appeal’s impact

The NLO Secretariat has officially confirmed that the promotion play-offs in Port Harcourt are temporarily suspended.

The reason? A significant appeal lodged by Cynosure FC.

This appeal challenges a previous decision by the NLO disciplinary committee regarding a match compromise petition against Liberty Lions FC of Cross River State.

Until the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Appeal Committee delivers its final verdict on this matter, the NLO promotion action in Port Harcourt will remain on pause.

The NLO has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused but emphasises that this delay is crucial for maintaining the integrity and fairness of the beautiful game.

NLO promotion logistics: What clubs need to know

While the matches are on hold, preparations continue behind the scenes for when the Port Harcourt playoff eventually resumes.

Qualified clubs now have the opportunity to register five additional players to substitute any injured players, providing some flexibility.

A logistics fee of N150,000 is required from all clubs, payable to the NLO account (FCMB: Nationwide League One, 3267800014) by Monday, June 10, 2025.

Payment receipts should be sent to the NLO Accountant at 08035825080.

Clubs must also ensure official clearance for all players from their respective original clubs.

For the southern zone teams, arrival in Port Harcourt was initially scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, 2025, while northern zone teams are expected on Tuesday, June 18, 2025.

However, new dates for the play-offs will be communicated as soon as the NFF Appeal Committee makes its decision.
