The game was fairly end-to-end until Kovacic slammed in a magnificent opening goal for the Blues to end the first half with Chelsea rather unlucky to only be ahead by one goal as Salzburg’s well-organized defense kept fighting.

From that point on, it was wide open in the Salzburg goal, and Kohn made three saves—once each from Silva, Havertz, and Aubameyang—to hold the score at 1-0 and give his team an opportunity to score an equalizer.

However, Salzburg tied the score early in the second half thanks to a spectacular strike from Junior Adamu, and from that point on, the game was rife with good opportunities.

The teams locked horns until Havertz sprang up to score an even spectacular late winner, but the end-to-end battle only got more intense in the final 30 minutes as both teams had numerous opportunities to score.

Although Chelsea managed to hold on to secure their place in the knockout rounds, Salzburg can still be proud of their performance and be certain that they will advance.

Chelsea forward Kai Havertz was quite terribly inconsistent for the majority of the game, only for his winning goal to bounce straight out of nowhere and it was magical.

His nine touches of the ball in the area came from his four shots, three of which were on goal. In the final third and he completed 17 passes, engaged in 17 duels, only succeeded in four of the seven air duels.

The German’s frequent switching between the midfield and forward lines caused loads of problems for the Salzburg defense, and his winning goal was the first of his 26 Chelsea goals to come from outside the box.

With their 2-1 victory, Chelsea has secured their passage to the competition’s knockout round and has extended their lead at the top of Group E to four points for the time being.

Milan and Dinamo Zagreb, whose game started after this one, are currently ahead of Salzburg by two points.

However, Die Bullen can be optimistic that they will succeed the following time they play at the San Siro after their outstanding performance in this game.
