The Super Eagles of Nigeria were defeated 2-1 by Mexico in the first of their two international friendlies on Sunday morning at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
In what appeared to be head coach – Jose Peseiro’s first game in charge of the Eagles, the team was narrowly defeated by Mexico, who had a successful start to their international window.
Barely two minutes after Cyriel Dessers equalized for Nigeria in front of a large crowd in Texas, William Troost-Ekong’s own-goal in the 56th minute seal the win for Mexico.

The unorganized Gerardo Martino’s team found back of the net early into the game through Santiago Gimenez, who fired them ahead just 12 minutes into the contest.
In the 54th minute, Europa Conference League top scorer – Cyriel Dessers equalized for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, converting a ball through to him by Calvin Bassey.
The equalizer did not last long, as captain William Troost-Ekong pumped the ball past Francis Uzoho in the 56th minute to put Mexico back in front.
The Super Eagles pushed for an equalizer late in the game, but Mexico held on to the lead and clinched yet another victory over Nigeria.
Though the Jose Peseiro team failed to qualify for this year’s World Cup, El Tri are gearing up for the tournament in Qatar, with this match the first of three friendlies before the CONCACAF Nations League opener against Suriname in June.
