Exciting news for fans of Bayelsa Queens: Mercy Omokwo, the prolific goal scorer from the Nigeria Women Football Premiership, has officially joined the club on a permanent deal from Delta Queens.
This surprising move was unveiled by Saheed Afolabi via his X page, formerly known as Twitter.
The former Confluence Queens star has signed a two-year deal with Bayelsa Queens, committing to wear their colors until 2025.
In the previous season, Mercy Omokwo played a pivotal role in helping Delta Queens secure the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title for the first time in 11 years.
She emerged as the top goal scorer of the 2022/2023 NWFL Premiership season, amassing over nine goals in just 15 league games.
One of her standout moments was when she helped Delta Queens achieve a remarkable 2-1 comeback victory against defending champions Bayelsa Queens in the final of the NWFL Premiership Super Six at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, ultimately lifting the trophy.
Now, it’s quite a twist of fate that she has joined the team she once defeated to claim the NWFL title.
Before her transfer to Bayelsa Queens, Mercy Omokwo also played a key role in Delta Queens’ bid to secure a spot in the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.
However, they narrowly missed the ticket to Ampem Darkoa of Ghana during the final of the WAFU-B Zonal Qualifiers in Benin City, Edo State.
