AFC Toronto forward Esther Okoronkwo has been crowned Player of the Month for September after a breathtaking series of performances that saw her inspire AFC Toronto to an unbeaten run in the Northern Super League.
The Super Falcons striker delivered four goals and two assists across four matches, driving Toronto to the top of the table and sealing their first-ever Supporters’ Shield title, Footballrover reports.

In a month filled with decisive moments, Esther Okoronkwo was at the heart of everything.
She opened September with a 37th-minute strike against Halifax, the only goal in a narrow 1–0 win.
Against Vancouver, she turned on the style, scoring twice in the 6th and 65th minutes before setting up another at the stroke of half-time to lead the team to a dominant 7–0 victory.
Her impact continued when she calmly converted a penalty in the 39th minute to earn a crucial 1–1 draw in the return fixture with Halifax.
She then capped off the month with a pinpoint assist in a 1–0 win over Ottawa.
With a goal or assist in every September game, Okoronkwo stretched Toronto’s unbeaten streak to five matches — four wins and a draw — giving them an eight-point cushion at the summit.
A Season of Records for Esther Okoronkwo
The Nigerian forward’s latest award adds another highlight to what has already been a milestone year.
Her September form took her overall league tally to 14 goal contributions — eight goals and six assists — since joining AFC Toronto in February 2025.
It’s the second time Okoronkwo has made history this year, having become the league’s first-ever Player of the Month winner back in June.
She has also carried her brilliance onto the international stage, playing a starring role in Nigeria’s success at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Falcons clinched a record 10th continental crown.
Her consistency, both for club and country, has established her as one of the most in-form African forwards in the women’s game.
Okoronkwo’s performances in September didn’t just earn her individual glory—they fuelled AFC Toronto’s charge to the maiden Supporters’ Shield and secured their place in the upcoming playoffs.
