Crisis at Enyimba? Angry Fans Protest and Demand Nwankwo Kanu’s Removal in Viral Video

Enyimba football club of Aba is seriously trending — and not for a good reason — as the club appears to be in a deeper mess than many initially thought.

Nwankwo Kanu under pressure amid Enyimba crisis

Kan U believe it? Crisis at Enyimba, with angry fans protesting and demanding the removal of Papilo in a viral video? It almost sounds like fake news, Footballrover reports.

Enyimba Crisis Deepens After Defeat at the Elephant Park

Following their outing against Ikorodu City on Sunday, where they once again failed to meet expectations after suffering a narrow 1-0 home defeat, fans were seen in a video shared by veteran Port Harcourt-based sports journalist China Acheru protesting and calling for the sack of the club’s chairman, Nwankwo Kanu.

That loss was their second in a row, coming after a 2-0 defeat to Bendel Insurance in Benin.

It has been a difficult season for the People’s Elephant — so difficult that another slip could see them drop into the relegation zone.

At the moment, the club sits in 14th place with 31 points, dangerously close to the bottom. They are just two points ahead of 17th-placed Kano Pillars.

The former NPFL champions suffered their 11th defeat of the season against the Oga Boys over the weekend — a home loss the fans clearly could no longer tolerate.

In 26 matches so far, the Aba giants have managed only eight wins and seven draws.

That return is far from good enough for a club that parted ways with former coach Stanley Eguma and immediately appointed a replacement, yet the problems persist.

Fans Demand Change as Pressure Mounts on Kanu

During the protest, one angry supporter lamented that since Kanu was appointed chairman, he has barely been seen around the club, claiming he spends more time abroad than overseeing the team and steering it forward.

As it stands, we don’t have any chairman. No joy! No joy! If he comes here, we’ll beat him up. Let Kanu Nwankwo peacefully quit this job,” the fans lamented, as translated from Igbo.

They continued:

Did Kanu ever play for any team in Abia State? Did he play for Enyimba? Rather, he’ll stay in Europe and have no clue what’s going on at the club. Our governor doesn’t owe; he pays salaries.”

As it stands, Enyimba’s last opportunity to restore some pride comes in Port Harcourt, where they will face Rivers United, a side recently eliminated from the CAF Champions League after failing to win any of their six group-stage matches.

But if Enyimba cannot secure points at home, can they produce something special away in Port Harcourt on Sunday?
