Former NPFL champion Rangers International have received the green light to reclaim their home turf at the iconic Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu after a prolonged hiatus.
The Flying Antelopes had been compelled to play parts of their NPFL home matches in Awka, Anambra State, owing to the stadium’s prior designation as unsuitable for league fixtures during the 2022–23 season.
In response, Rangers undertook an extensive rehabilitation project, refurbishing the grounds comprehensively, Footballrover reports.
The overhaul involved rejuvenating the turf, upgrading the dressing rooms, and also enhancing the spectator stands to meet NPFL standards.
Following a recent inspection facilitated by Rangers International, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board has now reversed its ban on the stadium.
Davidson Owumi, the Chief Operating Officer, confirmed the decision via correspondence to Rangers, paving the way for the stadium’s reopening starting on MatchDay 16.
Meanwhile, the return to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium coincides with a clash against arch-rivals Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, promising an electrifying atmosphere for Rangers fans and players.
This reinstatement not only marks the long-awaited homecoming for the Coal City side but also reignites the historic rivalry, drawing eager fans back to the revered Cathedral to passionately support their beloved club.
