Delta Queens Surrender CAF Champions League Ticket in WAFU-B Finals

Nigeria Women’s Football League Champions, Delta Queens, on Thursday night lost the ticket to represent the West African Football sub-region, WAFU B, at the CAF Women’s Champions League.Delta Queens Surrender CAF Champions League Ticket in WAFU-B Finals

The NWFL side narrowly lost 0-1 to Ghanaian women’s football champions Ampem Darkoa in the final match played today at the refurbished Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

A 43rd-minute first-half goal scored by Amposah Ophelia made all the difference for the Ghanaian women’s football champions.

A second-half late rally by Delta Queens coach Tosan Blankson, with the substitutions of captain Taiwo Afolabi, mercurial striker Mercy Omokwo, and Samuel Vera in place of Folajomi Olabiyi, Esther Inyang, and Chidera Okenwa in second half, could not rescue the match for the Nigerian Women’s Club Champions.

It was a tactical calculation that proved very damaging for the Tosan Blankson Queens of Asaba, as he waited too late in the game to introduce his best legs in the match.

Delta Queens of Asaba defeated Cote D’Ivoire Women’s Football Club Champions Athletico of Abidjan, 2-0, in the first semi-finals.

While Ampem Darkoa of Ghana defeated Sam Nelly of Benin Republic, 6-1, in the second semi-final match to qualify for the final of the sub-regional women’s football championship.

With this result, Delta Queens will not compete for the first time at this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League.
