Daniel Udoh and Elijah Odebe were both on target on Saturday, delivering important goals for their clubs in England and France.
The Nigerian forwards made the most of their opportunities, showing sharp instincts in front of goal despite very different situations at club level, Footballrover reports.
Daniel Udoh Seals Salford Win with Clinical Finish
Udoh capped a disciplined Salford City performance with a well-taken goal as they defeated Barnet 3–1 in an English League Two round 21 clash at The Hive Stadium.
The Nigerian forward wrapped up the scoring in the second half, taking his season tally to ten goal contributions — five goals and five assists in 17 appearances.
Udoh played 85 minutes before making way for Matt Butcher, working tirelessly despite losing the most duels (15) in the match.
Salford took control in the 34th minute when Rosaire Longelo’s cross found Josh Austerfield.
His initial effort was saved, but he reacted quickly to convert the rebound. Five minutes later, Salford doubled their lead after Jorge Grant’s through pass forced Barnet midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh into an unfortunate own goal.
Karl Robinson’s side started the second half brightly, and Udoh made it count in the 55th minute. Kelly N’Mai delivered a low cross into the box, and Udoh showed good anticipation to poke home Salford’s third.
Fellow Nigerians also featured, with Adebola Oluwo marshalling Salford’s defence, while Ofoborh endured a difficult outing for Barnet.
The hosts grabbed a late consolation through Oliver Hawkins, but the defeat marked their second loss in a row.
Elijah Odebe Scores on First Start to Spark Troyes Comeback
Elijah Odebe enjoyed a memorable afternoon in France, scoring his first goal of the season as Troyes claimed a 3–1 comeback win over Olympique Marcquois in the Coupe de France round of 64.
The 18-year-old Nigerian forward was handed his first start of the season and made full use of the chance.
After limited minutes in Ligue 1 — just 49 minutes across six appearances and several games spent on the bench — Odebe delivered when it mattered most.
Marcquois took the lead early through Seny Diaby and held the advantage into halftime.
Seven minutes after the break, Odebe struck to restore parity, calmly finishing to make it 1–1 and shift the momentum in Troyes’ favour.
Late goals from Mouhamed Diop and Tawfik Bentayeb completed the turnaround, sealing qualification for the round of 32.
Odebe featured for 71 minutes and will hope the goal boosts his chances of more regular involvement going forward.
