Nigerian youngster Daniel Job, who plies his trade with Sarpsborg 08 FC, recently made a significant impact in his debut start for the club, scoring a crucial goal in their 2-2 draw against FK Haugesund.
The young forward put out a commendable performance at the Sarpsborg Stadion as he continues to adapt to the demands of the Norwegian Eliteserien, Footballrover reports.
His compatriot Franklin Uchenna opened the scoring for Sarpsborg with a well-timed finish in the first half.
However, Haugesund star Julius Eskesen equalised just before the break, levelling the scoreline and raising the stakes for the second half.
The spotlight then shifted to the 18-year-old Daniel Job, who had recently joined Sarpsborg during the summer transfer window.
Making his first start for the club, Job capitalised on his opportunity by scoring a crucial goal just 17 minutes after the restart, putting Sarpsborg back in the lead.
Despite Job’s efforts, Sarpsborg’s lead was shortlived, as Haugesund’s Sory Diarra found the net in the 81st minute, ensuring both teams walked away with a point.
Reflecting on the match, Job expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and his personal contribution.
“Well, we did so well; we were just unlucky not to win, but we’ll keep fighting. It’s going to be good in the future,” Job told the team media.
While Job is primarily a winger, he was deployed as a striker in the match against Haugesund.
Despite the unfamiliar role, he proved to be a valuable asset, displaying his versatility and adaptability.
And when asked about the challenge of playing as a striker, in a position different from his usual spot on the flanks, Job admitted that,
“It was a little bit hard, but it is what it is. I just tried my best up front and see what I could do.”
And indeed, Job’s efforts paid off with his first goal for Sarpsborg 08, marking a significant milestone in his young career.
The former Future Pro Academy star might turn out to be a key player for Sarpsborg real soon if he continues this way in the Eliteserien.
But first, he must gain more experience in the Norwegian top flight as he looks to build on this promising start.
