After the thrilling encounter against Ghana on Friday, Cyriel Dessers has voiced his satisfaction with the strategic approach and play style adopted by interim coach Finidi George, leading Nigeria to a 2-1 victory over their long-time rivals at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.
Under Finidi’s guidance, the Eagles secured their first senior-level win against Ghana in 18 years, marking a significant win for Nigeria, Footballrover reports.
The match witnessed Dessers making a stellar return, confidently converting a penalty in the 38th minute after capitalising on a handball by Ghanaian defender Jerome Opoku, who later received a red card for dissent in the 57th minute, reducing the Black Stars to 10 men.

Nigeria further solidified their lead in the dying minutes with a well-executed team move, culminating in a composed finish by substitute Ademola Lookman.
Despite a late penalty awarded to Ghana, expertly converted by captain Jordan Ayew, the Eagles held firm, securing a memorable victory.
Dessers, reflecting on George’s tactical approach, emphasised pressing aggressively and creating more scoring opportunities, a departure from previous defensive strategies.
He expressed his belief that such a proactive style aligns with the ethos of the Super Eagles, admitting to the importance of relentless pressing to generate chances.
“He wanted us to press more, be aggressive. Then we can attack more, we can create more chances, that’s a good thing and I think that’s the way Super Eagles should play,” Dessers remarked, praising the shift towards a more attacking mindset under Finidi’s leadership.
