Over the weekend, members of the Wikki Tourists FC Supporters Club faced a terrifying ordeal when their journey to witness the clash between Wikki Tourists and Nasarawa United turned into a nightmare.
The harrowing accident occurred along the Jos-Lafia road in Nasarawa Eggon, leaving several supporters injured and the vehicle badly damaged, Footballrover reports.
Thankfully, there were no fatalities.Despite the distressing incident, Wikki Tourists FC faced another setback as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Nasarawa United in their NNL game at the Lafia City Stadium.
Two penalties Anas Yusuf and King Osanga in both halves secured the victory for Nasarawa United, ending Wikki Tourists’ unbeaten record.
In the aftermath of the defeat, Wikki Tourists head coach, Azeez Audu, acknowledged the need to address the team’s shortcomings.
He emphasised the importance of learning from defeat and expressed determination to rectify the mistakes identified in the game.
Audu remained optimistic, stating that setbacks are part of football and that his team would draw lessons from the experience.
Despite the challenging circumstances, he expressed gratitude and highlighted the team’s resolve to bounce back stronger in subsequent games.
“That’s football; you cannot always win; you will certainly lose some and also draw some. This happens to be one of our bad days, but in all situations, we thank God,” he said.
Despite the loss, Wikki Tourists maintained their position in second place on the table with 23 points, level with Nasarawa United and trailing Conference C leaders El Kanemi Warriors by just two points.
