Following their Tuesday night defeat to AC Milan in UEFA Champions League, Club Brugge coach Nicky Hayen has expressed his commitment to stand by Raphael Onyedika after the Nigerian midfielder received a controversial red card.

This incident occurred just five minutes before halftime, leaving the team down to ten men for the rest of the game, footballrover reports.

Onyedika’s dismissal stemmed from a rash challenge on Tijjani Reijnders, marking his second red card in just four appearances for Club Brugge in European competitions.

The Belgian Pro League champions ultimately succumbed to a 3-1 defeat before the final whistle.

Following the match, coach Hayen revealed his astonishment at the referee’s decision regarding Raphael Onyedika.

He likened the club to a warm, supportive environment, a “cosy blanket” for its players.
While the coach intends to provide support, he also stressed the importance of discipline.

Hayen noted that Raphael must tighten up his game to prevent similar slipups in the future.

We were, of course, surprised that Raphael got red. I think we can talk about bad luck—and unfortunately, the decision fell to our disadvantage,” Hayen said after the game.
”We will have a calm talk about it. In that area, we are a warm club that does not let players fall.

We will try to find a solution, but this kind of error needs to be worked on at Raphael,” the coach said.

In the end, the journey ahead for Club Brugge coach and Raphael Onyedika promises to be one of growth, resilience, and support.
