Bayelsa United, under the guidance of head coach Meremu Okara, had been riding a wave of success, but their recent match against Remo Stars proved to be a stumbling block.

The NPFL encounter on Saturday saw Bayelsa United suffer a narrow defeat, with Remo Stars clinching a 1-0 victory at the Remo Star Stadium in Ikenne, Footballrover reports.

The decisive moment came in the 72nd minute when Adams Olamilekan netted the winning goal for Remo Stars, propelling them to the top of the league table once again with 39 points.

This victory handed the Sky Blue Stars a breath of fresh air as they secured three crucial points in their NPFL campaign.

Prior to the match, Bayelsa United had been in solid form, setting a new NPFL record.

They were unbeaten in their last five matches, winning four and drawing one.

They also boasted the best defensive record in the league, conceding only one goal while scoring the second-highest number of goals, trailing behind Kano Pillars by just three goals.

The Prosperity Boys had achieved a clean sheet in their previous three NPFL matches, marking their longest streak since April 2015.

However, they fell short of extending this record against the Remo Stars.

At the other end of the pitch, the Remo Stars’ struggle to score in the first half of home matches continued, with this being their fifth such instance in the current NPFL season.

Despite this, they managed to secure crucial victories, including 90th-minute winners in their last two matches.

The defeat against Remo Stars leaves Bayelsa United in 14th place with 27 points, prompting them to regroup for their upcoming fixture against the Niger Tornadoes at the Samson Siasia Sports Stadium next Saturday.
