With rumours flying around regarding Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona head coach, Xavi and the president of the Spanish giants – Joan Laporta have dropped a significant hint about his future at Camp Nou.

Frenkie de Jong in preseason action for Barcelona

The summer of Frenkie de Jong is not going as well as he had hoped. While he has so far remained at Barcelona, sticking put might not be the best course of action.

De Jong has served as a stand-in center-back for Barcelona on their preseason tour. This might likely be the final outcome, according to his manager Xavi, if he stays.

In light of rumors that a deal has been agreed upon with Manchester United and a contract is simply awaiting the player, it appears as though Barcelona is pushing the player to stay.

But then, it appears that more unpleasant news may be forthcoming.

“I’m not here to send messages. I already spoke with Frenkie, I value him very much. He’s key player, but then there’s economic situation and Financial Fair Play. He can give us a lot also as a centre back. I like him in that position” – Xavi said on De Jong deal.

If De Jong stays, it appears that being a center-back will be disastrous for him. One of the best midfielders in the world, Barcelona doesn’t seem eager to employ him there.

The players they have now, such as Gavi, Pedri, Sergio Busquets, Franck Kessie, and Miralem Pjanic seems to be ahead of him already in Xavi’s starting XI selection.

Even if a position at center back were open, it doesn’t seem like things will stay that way.

Online rumors claim that Barcelona will beat Chelsea to the £60 million deal to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla.

According to information obtained by Footballrover, Kounde has personal terms in place to join Barcelona, and Sevilla is happy for the defender to choose his next team.

“Frenkie de Jong is our player, we really like him. We received some offers for Frenkie but we didn’t accept as of now, as we want to talk with him and know exactly what he wants. We need to clarify some aspects of his situation” – Joan Laporta said.
