Just three weeks after Simba SC confirmed the signing of NPFL star Augustine Okejepha from Rivers United, the Nigerian midfielder has registered his first goal for the Tanzanian giants.
Recall that the former Kano Pillars star signed a three-year contract with Simba SC after the team was blown away with his performance for Rivers United last season, despite the NPFL side finishing their campaign in eighth place, Footballrover reports.
During their preseason match in Egypt last week Wednesday, the 20-year-old defensive midfielder showed off his quality right away by finding the back of the net.
Augustine Okejepha registered a goal for his new side Simba SC in their 3-0 victory over El-Qanah Football Club, also known as Canal SC, in their first pre-season friendly match in Egypt.
Jean Charles Ahoua led Simba’s victory with two goals, while Augustine Okejepha added the third, as they easily defeated the Ismailia-based Egyptian team.
His efforts throughout the two weeks of the preseason training camp in Egypt are beginning to pay off.
Three preseason friendlies were played, all of which Augustine Okejepha and his new teammates won.
Following their solid victory, the Tanzanian team’s head coach, Fadlu Davids, expressed his happiness with the way his boys performed.
Davids emphasised the team’s impressive beginning, especially the first half’s play.
Speaking after the game, Coach Fadlu Davids of Simba SC said that he was happy they had been able to win the match with a 3-0 score.
He added that the players had played well and that after two weeks of training, this was a good step for them.
Davids explained that every player had gotten at least 30 minutes of play, except for Awesu and Onana, who came in late to join them in Egypt and could only play for 20 minutes.
He added that they decided to give some players more time, around 50 minutes, taking into account their fitness and readiness after the short training period.
Okejepha, who made well over 26 appearances for Rivers United last season, will kick off the new campaign with Simba SC next Thursday.
