Argentina subdued a brave Australian Senior National Football Team 2-1 to qualify for quarter final of Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In his 1,000th senior game, Lionel Messi scored goal number nine in a World Cup to help Argentina defeat Australia and advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
It was an epic second Round of 16 match which saw both national football teams prove their mettle within the ninety minute duration of the game played at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, Qatar.
The Argentine superstar, Lionel Messi – drew the first blood by scoring the first goal of the match in 35 minutes of the first half with an assist from his team mate – Nicolas Otamendi.

Argentine attacking sensation – Julian Alvarez, made it 2-0 for his country in 57th minute of the second half.
Australia fought back through Enzo Fernandez in 77th minute to reduce the goal tally to 1-2.
Australia made several attempts to score an equalizer and came near each time, but Argentina was able to hold onto a slim lead all the way to the final whistle.

Argentina will now meet Netherlands in the quarter final on Friday, December 9, 2022.
